Shen Yueyue, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and President of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), has called on women's federations nationwide to give full play to their functions and roles in further promoting the quality and market capacity of the housekeeping service sector.
Shen made the remarks at the opening ceremony of a national training session on quality and market capacity of housekeeping service sector in Jinan, the capital city of East China's Shandong Province, on September 18.
The housekeeping service industry is closely related to the wellbeing of millions of households. It is important for women's federations to work together with other relevant departments to promote the sector's healthy development as required by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Shen said, adding that there is also a great necessity to respond to public concerns, deepen the supply-side structural reform, and implement the targeted poverty alleviation.
Shen stressed that the women's federations should better act on the instructions made by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping upon housekeeping services, implement the document on developing the country's housekeeping service sector issued by the State Council General Office in June, and regard housekeeping service as the important work to improve people's livelihoods, create employment opportunities and promote targeted poverty alleviation, making efforts in better serving women and families and achieving mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.
Shen went on to say that the role of women's federations should be given full play in promoting housekeeping service quality and market capacity. Women's federations should make efforts in enlarging the teams of housekeeping service workers, training of housekeeping service practitioners, improving the credit and reputation of housekeeping practitioners, and strengthening housekeeping service brands. Women's federations should also further learn the national policy and use the policy to help housekeeping service companies, workers and women enjoy the benefits brought by the implementation of the national policy.
The document, issued by the State Council General Office and made public on June 16 this year, noted that the housekeeping service sector plays an important role in boosting employment, implementing targeted poverty alleviation and ensuring people's livelihoods. However, it also pointed out problems such as insufficient supply and lack of industry standards.
The document outlined 10 major task areas, such as full supporting measures to improve the quality of workers, which includes setting up housekeeping-related majors in schools and strengthening pre-service training and retraining for such personnel.
Huang Xiaowei, Secretary of the Leading Party Group of the ACWF and Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, presided over the ceremony. She emphasized that the women's federations should deepen their studies and implementation of the instructions by General Secretary Xi Jinping on the development of household services, make the ACWF's requirements into practice, and promote the industry's high-quality growth with down-to-earth measures.
During the event, officials from the provincial women's federations of Shandong, Jiangsu and Hebei, and the municipal women's federation of Lvliang in Shanxi Province, along with representatives from Guangxi Jinxiuqiu Women Housekeeping Service Alliance and the Jinan Sunshine Elder Sister Household Management Service Agency, shared with attendees their experiences and practices in connection with the housekeeping service sector.
